How to measure drivers for designing dipole speakers.
Here you will find a very brief article which addresses how you may easily obtain SPL measurements,
including the low frequency range, for drivers to be used predominately as midrange drivers in dipole
speaker systems. As you will see, the procedure is very simple and is less labor intensive than that
required for conventional box speakers where near and far field data are merged after correcting for the
baffle step. The procedure is similar, but there is no need to model baffle step effects, thus simplifying the
Near field SPL response.
Dipole low frequency response constructed from near field data:
Sum near field response to itself with phase inversion and delay.
1 meter response above 330 Hz
1 meter response above 330 Hz merged with constructed dipole response
below 330 Hz
